How To Use Social Media To Connect With Speakers At #THATCC

faith resources social media speakers list thatcc work Sep 13, 2016

Everyone uses social media, but when you go to conference, how do you use it for networking? Forming relationships. Meeting new people. How do you make the most effective use of your time there?

For most people, starting relationships with speakers at a conference or event you are attending are usually something reserved for the VIP crowd. You know, people with the "all-access" back stage passes.

But what I love about today is that the rules have changed:

[bctt tweet="Because of social media, access to influencers and speakers has effectively been democratized. " username="kennyjahng"]

IF, and that's a serious IF. . . if you have something of value to offer, you can reach almost anyone today and initiate some sort of relationship. 10 years ago, that was an absurd premise.

What's also amazing about social media is that you don't have to wait to be in front of them at an event. You know, that ultra long line you sit in AFTER they speak . . . way up there by the podium or stage. Have you even been one of those people hovering, waiting for a chance to say hi and shake their hands for brief moment as you basically melt into the stream of faces from which the speaker probably can't recall any specific individual just a couple of hours later?

Nowadays, you can reach out to speakers you are planning on seeing at a conference and strike up a meaningful conversation before you even enter into the event venue. That's what I love about social media.

The best part is when you DO meet up with an influencer or speaker at a live event. Then it become a true Kodak moment!

I'm headed to That Church Conference next week and the event organizers (Justin and Van), have lined up a neat set of speakers this year. Here's a list of every speaker's social media handles so that you can easily click and connect via any of the platforms they are present on.

BONUS TIP: if you're serious about being noticed. Drop a comment on their blog a couple of times before now and then. It is one of the sure fire ways to show up on someone's radar. Consistent COMMENTING interaction on a blog works every time in my experience. Don't spam the blog. Engage in thoughtful responses and reflections. Ask questions. Try it and see what happens in this short week before the event.

And don't forget to connect with me too: Would love to connect with you online and in Atlanta!
